shallots
1 pint cream
dijon mustard
gruyere
8 med. potatoes
basil
sliced almonds
1/3 cup minced shallots
3 tbsp butter/margarine
2 cups heavy cream
1/2 cup Gray Poupon dijon mustard
1 cup shredded gruyere cheese
1 tbsp fresh basil, chopped
8 medium potatoes, peeled & thinly sliced (6 cups)
1/4 cup sliced almonds, toasted

In medium saucepan over medium heat, cook shallots in 1 tbsp butter until tender. Stir in the cream, mustard, and remaining butter, and simmer for 5 minutes. Reduce heat to low. Add the basil and 1/2 cup of the cheese, stirring until the cheese melts.

In greased 8x8x2 dish, alternately layer potatoes and cream sauce. Sprinkle the top with the remaining shredded cheese. Bake at 400°F for 45-55 minutes, or until potatoes are tender. Garnish with almonds before serving.
