shallots
1 pint cream
dijon mustard
gruyere
8 med. potatoes
basil
sliced almonds
1/3 cup minced shallots
3 tbsp butter/margarine
2 cups heavy cream
1/2 cup Gray Poupon dijon mustard
1 cup shredded gruyere cheese
1 tbsp fresh basil, chopped
8 medium potatoes, peeled & thinly sliced (6 cups)
1/4 cup sliced almonds, toasted

In medium saucepan over medium heat, cook shallots in 1 tbsp butter until tender. Stir in the cream, mustard, and remaining butter, and simmer for 5 minutes. Reduce heat to low. Add the basil and 1/2 cup of the cheese, stirring until the cheese melts.

In greased 8x8x2 dish, alternately layer potatoes and cream sauce. Sprinkle the top with the remaining shredded cheese. Bake at 400F for 45-55 minutes, or until potatoes are tender. Garnish with almonds before serving.
