3/4 cup butter
1 cup sugar (plus extra to roll in)
1 egg
4 tbsp molasses
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp cloves
1 tsp ginger
2 tsp baking soda
2 cups flour

Allow butter to soften at room temperature. Mix the butter, sugar, egg and molasses.

Sift together cinnamon, cloves, ginger, baking soda, and flour. Mix the dry ingredients into the egg-sugar-butter mixture.

Refrigerate until dough is firm. Form into balls, and roll in granulated sugar until coated. Bake at 350 deg. F for 18 minutes.
